Habitat for Humanity York County builds and sells homes to hard-working people in need of decent and affordable housing. We are an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-denominational Christian housing ministry and global home-building movement. Habitat welcomes all people, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or any other difference, to join us and build homes for people in need.
Habitat for Humanity York County was founded by Miles Freeman and a small group of dedicated individuals in 1985. Our mission is to work towards the elimination of poverty housing and homelessness in York County and to stir the hearts and minds of others to take action on this issue. Since 1985, HfHYC has built 25 homes in York County. Our homes are well-built, easy to maintain and enhance the neighborhoods in which we build.
Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity International has more than 2,300 local affiliates, state support organizations and national organizations in nearly 90 countries. Completing a home somewhere in the world every 10 minutes, Habitat builds nearly 26,000 homes per year around the world.

Habitat for Humanity is a homeownership program. We sell our homes to families who go through a rigorous screening process and participate in building their own home. The homes are sold at no profit to HfHYC and partner families assume a no-interest mortgage. Families make a down payment and contribute 400 hours of sweat-equity to help build their own home, as well as the homes of other Habitat families. Their monthly mortgage payment helps fund more Habitat homes. Our homeowner families also participate in Home Buyer Education classes which help foster increased economic independence and self-reliance. Qualifying families are 1) currently in need of decent, stable and affordable housing, 2) are willing to help build their home, and 3) meet HfHYC financial requirements. Learn more about Homeowner Qualifications.
Habitat for Humanity is about so much more than building houses. We build houses so that families can break the cycle of poverty and have a firm foundation upon which to build better lives. Because of the increased stability homeownership offers, children do better in school and families become more involved in their community.

We depend on the donations of time and money to make the Habitat program work. Funds received from individuals, corporations, foundations, and faith organizations go towards our homeownership program. Volunteers are an integral part of the Habitat for Humanity program with both skilled and unskilled individuals assisting to build homes alongside our partner families. Volunteers also serve on committees and help with fundraising events. By donating or volunteering you can become part of something lasting and profound.
We can't end poverty housing alone, so please join us . . . we have many more homes and lives to build! |
