Family Services Committee

 

Family Preparation Team

Nadeau family Purpose: Educate Partner Families of HFHYC in budgeting, home maintenance, yard maintenance, and rights and responsibilities for successful transition to home ownership.

Structure: At least 2 volunteers working on a year-round basis directed by a Team Leader

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:
Family Partnership Team Purpose: Provide welcoming support to Partner Families of HFHYC, assist in their integration into the community of HFHYC families and volunteers, and promote honest communication to foster a long-term partnership relationship. Structure: At least 10 volunteers working on an as-needed basis directed by a Team Leader. Key Tasks/Responsibilities

Family Partnership Team

Purpose: Provide welcoming support to Partner Families of HFHYC, assist in their integration into the community of HFHYC families and volunteers, and promote honest communication to foster a long-term partnership relationship.

Structure: At least 10 volunteers working on an as-needed basis directed by a Team Leader.

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Provide a Liaison for each Partner Family to serve as a friend/advocate and ensure HFHYC policies are well communicated and understood [2-year commitment is encouraged]
  • Meet regularly with each Partner Family throughout the Sweat Equity and home building process to respond to questions and concerns and work with the family to develop solutions
  • Monitor Partner Family progress in meeting Sweat Equity, training and other commitments
  • Coordinate groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies with the Partner Family and Board
  • Maintain a relationship with each Partner Family after the home is completed to mediate in case of problems, such as missed house payments
  • Obtain a monthly report from the Treasurer on late house payments and make contact (Liaison or Team Leader) with the Partner Family to investigate

Purpose: The Family Services Committee (FSC) shall be responsible for Family Selection, Family Preparation, and Family Partnership, plus other duties focused on support for Partner Families of HfHYC.

Structure: A Board Member who is also a member of the Executive Committee shall chair the FSC. The FSC shall be divided into three teams, each with its own leader: Family Selection, Family Preparation, and Family Partnership. The committee shall consist of the committee chair, the three team leaders, and a total of at least 18 volunteers across the three teams. Committee membership is open to any interested volunteer with an emphasis on those experienced in social work, counseling, financial planning, real estate, law, neighborhood/community development, and home ownership or living-skills training. Each Board Member is encouraged to participate in at least one family selection process.

Tracy familyFamily Selection Team 

Purpose: Establish and implement rules and procedures which ensure the Board may impartially select the most qualified family for each house built by HfHYC.

Structure: At least 6 volunteers working on a cyclical basis directed by a Team Leader

Key Tasks/Responsibilities :

  • Respond to inquiries from families with housing need and maintain a list of those interested
  • Publicize and conduct periodic Open Application Meetings to gather application information
  • Perform financial screening reviews to determine eligibility for the HfHYC program
  • Perform home interviews to establish housing need and partnership commitment
  • Recommend to the Board for selection the most qualified family on a project basis
  • Recommend to the Board for selection qualified families who own land that has been deemed appropriate by the Building & Projects Committee for an HfHYC project
  • Maintain application files, as required, to meet state and federal housing law requirements
