HfHYC Breaks Ground
on 21st Home

On June 18, 2006, Lorie’s family and friends and some dedicated Habitat volunteers endured one of the hottest days of the summer to break ground on the Back Road property that will become the Guertin home. Derek and Kayla read Bible verses; Lorie read a poem about friendship and thanked Habitat for the opportunity to have a home and "roots" for her children in Shapleigh.

Meet the Guertin Family

Lorie Guertin is a single mom with two children Derek and Kayla. Derek is almost 12 and will be in sixth grade. Kayla turn ed 10 in June and will be in f ifth grade. They enjoy baseball, softball, and soccer.

The Guertin family attends the Curtis Lake Christian Church in Sanford. Lorie works for Counseling Services, Inc. at The Elms with eight mentally ill adults. In their spare time, the Guertins love outdoor activities such as camping, swimming, bike riding, hiking, and fishing. They also enjoy watching Nascar racing, going to the movies and helping others.

Lorie looks forward to having a permanent place to call their own. She wants a yard in which the children can play in a neighborhood that is safe. “This is our miracle house! We thank God that we were chosen to receive this beautiful house. I want to thank Habitat (for Humanity) York County for giving us this opportunity to partner with them to make my family’s dream of owning our own home come true.”

“This is my miracle,” Lorie said recently, “This is the best thing that has ever happened to my family. It is God’s blessing for us to receive one of these houses, we are very grateful!”
