How Does One Qualify for a Habitat Home?
HfHYC determines eligibility for homeownership based on several criteria including:
- the family’s current shelter is substandard, unaffordable or overcrowded;
- the family is willing to perform 400 hours of “sweat equity” work;
- a determination that the family has a responsible credit history;
- the family’s inability to obtain a mortgage from a conventional institution; and
- a total family income from all sources which is within the following example ranges:

Families who have lived or worked in York County for at least one year are encouraged to apply for the projects. HFHYC is a fair housing provider and meets all Federal guidelines for nondiscrimination. Race, color, handicap, age, sex, religion, national origin and family structure are not factors in the selection process.
