Purpose: The Site Evaluation Committee (SEC) shall identify all potential properties to include developable land as well as land with existing homes that would qualify under our current guidelines for Habitat for Humanity families. The SEC shall help grow the inventory of raw land and existing housing stock to provide our organization with the product to develop Habitat homes for our Partner Families enabling Pride of Ownership. The SEC shall also identify opportunities to develop housing by training a Site Evaluation Committee with a focus on procuring real estate through donations and purchase. To evaluate financial opportunities through estate planning vehicles to include trust gifting as well as stock option donations, etc.

Structure: A Board Member who is also a member of the Executive Committee shall chair the SEC. The committee shall consist of the committee chair and at least 6 volunteers. Each volunteer on the committee would work with 5 communities of the 30 total communities in York County .

 Key Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Manage Relationship with Communities—Meet with Town Managers/Planners/Selectmen/Town Fathers/Code Enforcement to share HfHYC’s Mission, to engage them to support our mission, and to encourage change in town policy to facilitate opportunity for future growth of affordable housing.
  • Cultivate and Encourage Potential Land Opportunities—Request that towns donate town tax records and maps to allow HfHYC to identify potential opportunities. Solicit land owners to donate real estate. Work with financial advisors who would provide us with solutions to promote donations through tax incentives and stock options etc.
