The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to eliminate poverty housing worldwide. Habitat for Humanity York County participates in the Habitat Tithe program, working to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
What is our Habitat Tithe?
Habitat for Humanity York County tithes (donates a portion of our unrestricted income) for the construction of homes in Guatemala. A Guatemala Habitat home costs an estimated $5,800 to build.
We tithe only unrestricted donations. You can designate that your entire donation remain in York County. Or, your unrestricted contribution will help build homes for two families in need of safe, affordable housing — one in York County and one in Guatemala.
York County Habitat for Humanity Volunteers are Guatemala Bound!
A team of York County volunteers assisted in building two homes in March of 2015. The volunteers returned home excited and determined to return to Guatemala. In March of 2017, another team returned to Guatemala to share in the joy of helping families in need of safe, durable housing. These homes are built of steel-reinforced concrete block and cement, designed to be resistant to natural shocks and tremors. The sweat, support and love of our volunteers and a few hand tools transform these materials into a home.
Our tithes have built 33 homes in Guatemala. To read the 2017 Guatemala team's blog click here
