Frequently asked questions
What does a typical build day look like?
Volunteers have the opportunity to spend a half day (8:30-12:00) or a full day (8:30-3:30) on the build site. The day begins with a short intoduction about what the day will entail. The construction manager will teach volunteers how to complete the daily assignments. There will be a break for lunch around 12:00 (not provided).
What should volunteers know about volunteer during Covid-19?
All volunteers will be required to wear a face covering while on site. You can be contagious without symptoms and spread the disease when you cough, sneeze or even talk. We encourage volunteers to bring their own face covering – Masks will be provided for those who need it.
Do I need construction experience?
No! We welcome volunteers of all skill levels on the build site. The construction manger and skilled volunteers will be on the build site to teach you everything you will need to know.
What should I bring with me to volunteer?
All necessary tools and safety equipment will be provided on the job site, but you are welcome to bring tools from home. Water bottles and snacks are availible on the build site, but we encourage you to bring your own water bottle. Please wear closed toe shoes, and dress in layers.
Where are you building?
We are currently building a home in Saco. Following the Saco build, we will be building a house in Cape Porpoise
Are there bathrooms on the build site?
There are port-a-potties on all of our build sites.
Can I take pictures?
Yes! We encourage volunteers to take pictures and tag us on social media!
Are there age restrictions?
Yes. Volunteer aged 16 and 17 are permitted on the build site if they are acommpanied with an adult.
