Frequently asked questions

What does a typical build day look like?

Volunteers have the opportunity to spend a half day (8:00-12:00) or a full day (8:00-3:00) on the build site. The day begins with a short intoduction about the goals for the day. The construction manager will show all volunteers how to complete the tasks for the day. There will be a break for lunch around 12:00. Volunteers complete work that they are comfortable doing, no one will be required to do something that they are unfortable with. We encourage volunteers to take breaks as needed.

What should volunteers know about volunteer during Covid-19?

All volunteers will be required to wear a face covering while on site. You can be contagious without symptoms and spread the disease when you cough, sneeze or even talk. We encourage volunteers to bring their own face covering – Masks will be provided for those who need it. Volunteers will be required to answer a few questions upon check-in regarding their health and have their temperatures taken. Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available; clean frequently touched surfaces regularly; cover your cough or sneeze with your sleeve, not your hands. We are limiting the number of volunteers on the build site. All volunteers must sign up prior to their volunteer day; volunteers who show up without signing up in advance will not be permitted on site. If you have travled outside of new england or been exposed to anyone showing covid symptoms you must wait 14 days before volunteering on the build site. Stay home if you are sick

Do I need construction experience?

You do not need to be skilled with construction or have previous experience prior to volunteering. The construction manger and skilled volunteers will be on the build site to teach you everything you will need to know!

What should I bring with me to volunteer?

All necessary tools and safety equipment will be provided on the job site. However you are welcome to bring tools from home. Water is availible on site, but we encourage you to bring your own water bottle. Please wear closed toe shoes, and dress in layers.
